As we anticipate another year of memorizing Fighter Verses, I would like to invite you to join me in seeking God’s grace to learn them, meditate on them, and apply them to our lives for His glory and to prepare us for whatever He has for us in 2019.
Almighty God,
We thank You for Your Word and for giving us access to You in prayer and we gladly come before You now asking that You will bless every good resolve and every work of faith from Your people in this new year. Grant that we would read and study and memorize Your Word more in 2019 than we did in 2018. Keep us meditating on it day and night and let it be absorbed into our hearts and bear fruit in our lives.
Help us this week to memorize Isaiah 41:10. By this powerful Word, dispel all our fear and increase our confidence in Your promise to be with us and strengthen us and help us and uphold us with Your righteous right hand.
And if, in this first month of the year, we should pass through the waters and rivers and fire of adversity sustain us with Isaiah 43:1-3 promises of Your presence and protection for You are the LORD our God, the Holy One of Israel, our Savior.
We ask that You would not only help us memorize 1 Thessalonians 5:18 but also give us the grace to give thanks in whatever our circumstances may be in February, knowing that You are greater than all, and resting with John 10:28 assurance that no one is able to snatch us out of Your hand.
In March, let us make a joyful noise with the Psalmist and serve You with gladness having been reminded by Ephesians 2:1-3, that we were once dead in our trespasses and sins and were by nature children of wrath.
Overwhelm us in April, Lord Jesus, with the truth of Your love for us in that while we were still sinners, You died for us and may we forever praise You for reconciling us by Your death and saving us by Your everlasting life.
In May and June, let the words of Psalm 139 sink deep into our souls and then rise with praise as we worship You as our all-knowing God who knows when we sit and when we rise and is acquainted with all our ways and who holds us and leads us and covers us so that even the darkness is as light with You. May we never cease to be amazed by the eyes that saw our unformed substance and the hand that knit us together in our mother’s womb and the book in which was written the days that were formed for us when as yet there was none of them.
In July, as we memorize the first four verses of Hebrews may Christ be exalted as the appointed Heir of all things, the Source of all creation, the Radiance of Your glory and the exact imprint of Your nature who is now seated at Your right hand, upholding the universe by the word of Your power and—as we will learn from Jeremiah 1:12—watching over Your word to perform it.
May every trouble we face in August be accompanied by the assurance that we have in Psalm 9:9-10 and in Psalm 27 that You are the stronghold of our lives and the shelter in the day of trouble who sets us on a rock that cannot be shaken.
Give us the resolve in September to be doers of the Word and not just hearers, guard us from boasting in our wisdom or might or wealth, but only boast that we know and understand You and Your steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth.
Throughout October, may we cast all our burdens on the Lord, knowing (or being assured) that He will sustain us and not allow the righteous to be moved.
In November, may we be delighting in the way of Your testimonies as much as in all riches—fixing our eyes on Your way and trusting that You will draw near to us as we draw near to You.
And by December, may we be found steadfast, immovable, abounding in Your work knowing that in You our labor is not in vain and because You are the resurrection and the life, we rest in Your promise that though we die, yet shall we live and everyone who lives and believes in You shall never die.
And it is in Your name, O Resurrected Christ, that we pray,
